Botox® by Collagenics

The aging process affects us all but we offer a treatment that can keep your skin looking younger and smoother for longer.

Botox® is a purified protein which has been used by the medical and beauty professions as wrinkle therapy for years and is now one of the most popular cosmetic procedures around.

Botox® injections relax the muscles that create wrinkles thereby lessening the appearance of frown lines, laugh lines and crow’s feet.

Botox® attacks the wrinkles at source. If you develop a frown line, putting a substance in to fill that line is not as effective without the use of Botox® to stop the frowning. The negative image of frowning is stopped and the lines created by frowning are improved. The same applies to forehead, lines and crow’s feet. If you cans top the cause of wrinkles then you will help to prevent them from returning or worsening.

The history of Botox®?

Although relatively new to the cosmetic industry, in the 70’s ophthalmologists began injecting botulium toxin into tiny eye muscles to treat ‘lazy eye’. In the 80’s the drug was used to correct other facial, eyelid and limb problems such as tremors and spasms. It was during a procedure in the late 80’s that the cosmetic benefit became apparent by patient’s diminished frown lines. The cosmetic use of Botox® was researched and published in the early 90’s.

Botox® and Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

In recent years, Botox® has also been recognised as being able to dramatically reduce excessive sweating. If injected under arms, it can often reduce sweating completely. People usually request re-injection 6-9 months later, even though only some of the sweating has returned.

A significant reduction can be achieved in the hands. Good improvement is usually seen and last up to 6 months. Many injections are often needed and anaesthetic, or freezing, may be required before hand treatment.

What causes wrinkles and frown lines?

Frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet are caused by constant movement of muscles underneath the skin. For example, a wrinkle in the areas between the eyebrows may appear and persist because of the repeated, often unconscious action of frowning.

The lines can produce an angry and frustrated look on the face. This is the same for lines by the eyes, often called crows feet, which are caused by smiling or squinting. Raising our eyebrows will often result in forehead lines.

What is Botox®?

Botox® is a purified product produced by a bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum. This drug works by weakening the muscles that causes wrinkles. Used in its purified form, in any tiny amount, injection of Botox® will relax muscles, lessening the appearance of frown lines, forehead lines, and crows feet.

What benefits can I expect?

Botox® can decrease the strength of the muscle of which it is injected. By relaxing these muscles, frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet become less visible. The lines seem to disappear or diminish dramatically. It may take a few days to notice the moving affect.

How is it injected?

The solution is injected directly into the muscle. Your specialist will determine what muscle to treat to give the desired look.

Does the injection hurt?

The treatment itself only takes a few minutes and a very tiny needle is all that is needed. Some patients report minor and temporary discomfort from the injection.

Where can Botox® be used?

The most common areas are frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet. Other areas include the neck, upper lip and underarms.

Is there any danger of botulism?

Botox® is extraordinarily safe. It has been used since the late 70’s for many medical conditions. Given by a trained physician, in the correct amount, there is no danger of botulism. Botulism is caused by a very large amount of the toxin in the system, usually from eating contaminated food. Very high doses, often 100 times more than would normally be used, would have to be injected to cause harm.

Are there any side effects?

The side effects are minimal and rare. Any side effects are related to the injection of the solution. This may be a slight discomfort from the needle and a chance of a small bruise. A rare side effect is a temporary drooping of one eyelid. This is a short lived and very uncommon in the hands of an experienced doctor.

How long before I notice an improvement?

You will notice Botox® beginning to work in 2-4 days. It will improve over the following 7-10 days.

How long will it last?

The improvements you will achieve with Botox® will last anywhere from 3 -6 months. You will notice a gradual fading of its affect, at which point, you should return for re-injections. Some find that it last longer after having multiple treatments and will last for months more than it had in the past.

Why choose Botox®?

Botox® has become an integral part of the practice of cosmetic surgery. It has replaced unnecessary invasive surgical procedures. Its effects are outstanding and its use avoids the risks and down time of previously used treatments.

Are there any reasons not to have Botox®?

Botox® should not be used on patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have a neurological disease.
